When HDMI eARC is enabled but your receiver stays silent, the problem is usually a misconfigured setting, a handshake failure, or an incompatible audio format.

This guide explains how eARC works and walks through the most effective fixes so you can restore TV audio fast.

What HDMI eARC does and why it can fail

HDMI eARC, or enhanced Audio Return Channel, sends audio from a TV back to an AV receiver, soundbar, or AV processor over a single HDMI cable.

Compared with standard ARC, eARC supports higher-bandwidth formats such as Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby Atmos, and multichannel LPCM, but it also introduces more opportunities for device negotiation problems.

Most cases of HDMI eARC no sound from receiver happen when one device thinks audio should be sent through eARC while another still expects speaker output, optical output, or internal TV speakers.

The result is a working video signal with no audio on the receiver side.
