How to Stop iRobot Roomba from Moving Its Charging Dock

If your iRobot Roomba keeps dragging or nudging its charging dock, the problem is usually placement, floor traction, or a docking routine that’s fighting the environment.

Why Roomba Moves the Charging Dock

Roomba cleaners are designed to align with the Home Base or Clean Base, and they use a combination of bump sensors, infrared guidance, and wheel traction to complete docking.

If the base is too light, sits on a slippery surface, or is placed where the robot has to make repeated corrections, the dock can shift across the floor.

The issue is more common on smooth flooring such as hardwood, laminate, tile, and polished concrete.

It can also happen when the dock cable pulls from the side, when the base is placed too close to walls or furniture, or when dirt buildup changes how the robot approaches the charger.

Start With the Best Dock Placement

The charging dock should be positioned on a flat, stable surface with enough clearance for the Roomba to approach and reverse safely.

  • Place the dock against a wall on a level floor.
  • Keep the area in front of the dock clear of rugs, cords, baskets, and shoes.
  • Leave several feet of open space in front of the base whenever possible.
  • Make sure the dock is not sitting on a rug edge or uneven transition strip.

Clean Sensors, Wheels, and Dock Contacts
