If the unit still behaves oddly after filter replacement and cleaning, the sensor may need service.

Persistent false readings can also be caused by a malfunctioning fan, blocked air path, or firmware-related issues on app-connected models.

How to tell whether the purifier is actually improving air quality

Instead of focusing on a single momentary reading, watch the trend over time.

A healthy Dyson Purifier should usually show an initial spike after cleaning or cooking, then gradually improve as it filters the air.

If the number falls steadily over 10 to 60 minutes, the machine is likely working as intended.

Pay attention to whether the purifier becomes quieter as air quality improves, whether the display color changes, and whether odors or visible dust are reduced.

Those signs often confirm that the sensor and filtration system are functioning even if the reading is slow to normalize.
